Our goals and methods.
We make resources to help 3rd-12th grade students prepare for State Exams in math and science.
Much of our content is consistent with State, NGSS and Common Core standards.
We write all apps (content and computer code) and produce all videos and associated student engagement quizzes / worksheets at our South Carolina office. Although our demonstration lab is also in South Carolina, we have purchased many clips made by others (e.g., especially involving wild animals) that were recorded all over the world. And, for clips that are "out of this world" (e.g., images obtained by satellites and astronauts on the Moon), we thank NASA and other organizations.
Regarding our science videos, our goal is to try and make concepts accessible to students by demonstrating phenomena using everyday experiences, then explaining them using more formal scientific terms and theories. As needed, we do lab experiments and use animations -- but if at all possible, we use relatable, common experiences as examples.
Like science itself, we're a work in progress. If you think we've made an error, please contact us. We'll check it immediately and if you're right, we'll correct it. We respond to all comments and welcome constructive criticism.
Why we are doing this.
You may have noticed that everything we make is available for free: our apps (e.g., for Mac and iPad); our quizzes / worksheets (paper as well as more than 10 electronic formats); other downloadable resources (e.g., paper booklets for multiplication or division tables and 3D printer files); and access to our videos.
You may also have noticed that we have no memberships, subscriptions or paywalls on this website. We don't ask for (or accept) donations, grants, sponsorships or buy-out offers. And, we have no third party advertisers on our website or in our apps.
If you've run a business you'll recognize that what we're doing makes no business sense: since 2021 we've spent many thousands of dollars and hours per year to make our products, and have earned $0.00 in total.
Here's why we're doing this: we want to assist educators and students -- for free. Teachers often spend their own money buying classroom resources. Many students and their families can't afford to buy educational resources.
Our founder was able to retire when young and funds this company. He has several graduate degrees in science and cites his education as helping him reach many of his goals. This is one way that he gives back.
